well, apart from catching up over long phone conversations with best friends that live in different cities (which is what i did with my morning), soup definitely makes the “best things on a lazy, rainy sunday” list. german potato soup á la mama that amina taught me how to make has ingredients in it that showcase where she’s from: the red wine used represents the french part of her, the harissa paste represents the arabic part of her, and the potatoes and sausages represent the german in her.
ingredients: olive oil, diced onions, minced garlic, chopped up sausages (chorizo or italian), half and half cream, chicken broth, potatoes, zucchini (and whatever other vegetables you’d like to use), harissa paste, sun-dried tomato paste, bits of noodles or orzo, red wine, black pepper, nutmeg, and whatever other spices you’d like to use.
fry up the onions, garlic, and sausages in a big pot of olive oil. add the zucchini (and whatever other vegetables you want) and potatoes into the mix. dump the chicken broth in and turn the heat up to high. once it’s come to a boil, add the cream in, along with the harissa paste, sun-dried tomato paste, red wine, the bits of noodles or orzo (or both), pepper, nutmeg, and whatever other spices you’ve chosen to use (although this dish is pretty tasty even without an abundance of spices).
and because feel-good lists are fun, here are some of my other favourite things to do on a lazy, rainy sunday: get a massage, sit in the sauna, go hottubbing, run a bath, take a scorching-hot shower, put on lotion-socks after hottubing/getting out of the bath/shower, cuddle, watch tv/a movie, take a nap, read, write, listen to music, drink tea… pretty much anything that involves relaxing indoors.
